Goodbye to Algebra

It's time to impart your vast wisdom to those who will come after you. Think back on the year. What do you wish you'd known? What advice do you wish you'd had before you started this course? What would you like to tell the next class that will help them in their quest for mathematical excellence next year?
Write a short letter to those who will take this class next year. Offer information, suggestions and advice. Sign your first name and last initial. If you know a specific person who will take this course next year, you may address it to that person. Otherwise, address it to all future students. Be sincere and thoughtful. They'll appreciate and thank you for it.

To all future Algebra students, Some of the things that you need to know is that in Algebra, everything seems harder than it really is. Like simplifying x^2+3=12x... Thats easy! Also, please do NOT play block dude. She hates that. Especially when you are doing it during class. And don't tap on ANYTHING with ANYTHING. That gets on her final nerve, and your fellow students.

Have fun in Algebra, remember the pythagorean theorum (x^2+y^2=z^2), and DON'T FAIL!Sincerely,
Gregory W.

Deaar all 6th graders,
You are dead when you hit Algebra!!!!!!!
Just kidding.
If you remember to FOIL and not to go ahead during the lesson teaching you will be fine. Get on the teachers good side or die.
The packet of doom is IMPOSSIBLE. It took me about 3 hours to do. When you hit radicals be sure to pay attention. The test is super hard. If you shut up and do your work you will do fine. Most of the homework is a completion grade. Never freak out like I did. Stay calm and try your best.

Dear unimportant anonymous reader,

When you fail this class miserably I will be laughing. Now that you know the truth you probably realize how insignificantly worthless you are. Beware beyond this point your life has been officially altered. Now be prepared to immerse yourselves in the devastating power of finding out logarithms. Ex. 5^x= 15625.
What is x? You have no hope of survival. Now that there is no chance of returning to your formal self with this knowledge in mind, you should know that to ease the searing pain that blinds your soul, you should play card games like Presidents.
Remember the positions are Pres, VP, Neutral, Janitor and Hobo. Now while you do your homework (if it doesn't infulge you first) remember that the bands to listen to are Linkin Park, 3 Doors Down and the song "Perfect" by Simple Plan. They seem to soothe the massive homework. And if you actually want to do well and keep up with the math, remember that studying does not help at all. You usually forget it and end up failing anyway. Oh and before I forget, watch out for the deadly packet of doom. It's her latest invention that will have looking left and right before you cross the hallway. Recommend saying your dog ate it. If you don't have a dog buy one. But it seems that a cure for the homework seems to be to get started while she's teaching the lesson. Perk up whenever she says something you didn't know (this probably means that you'll be perked up the whole time). The homework isn't allowed to eat you in school so use that to your advantage. Calculators help a ton even though she has some (watch out they're only props for the second half of the year; the hard part of the year). oh if you need homework help then go to http://www.brian-peterson.blogspot.com/. This has maybe the first couple of chapters in it. Sadly the only other thing i can tell you before they hunt me down for spilling their secrets. Remember packet of doom = bad, work thoroughly and above all never ever, ever, ever, disrespect the teacher. Especially by playing block dude on the calculators (seems to be the only thing they are used for) or tapping you pencil. Also this was NOT a grade. I did this just to inform your innocent souls of the dangers with no benefit for myself at all.

No guts. No glory.
Above the influence.
The few. The proud. Me.

One of the few survivors, BRIAN P.

P.S.- anything that does not sound like this is obviously a decoy designed to put you off your guard. Watch out math teachers are tricky like that.

Hello my friends and other people,
You might think we are trying to scare you but we aren't. Algebra is hard. Study for tests, do your homeworks, take notes and take your time. The problems have ALOT of steps, miss one thing wrong and its alllll down hill. Pay attention in class dont talk alot and dont doodle:).Follow these steps and you'll pass.
You wont get alot of the chapters but do your hw and u will eventually get it. go to tutorials, blah, blah blah. Good Luck!

Laney B.

PS Scott i suggest not being a know it all. and my friends and other people you probably already know this but dont whine it annoys ms mclinden and dont ask stupid questions cough cough jonathan, max o and daemon (is that how u spell ur name? srry i just guessed)

Dear Future Algebra Students,
I suggest that you take as many notes as possible and keep them neat and readable. Keep in mind some of the things you learned in 6th grade, because it can help you! Do not hesitate to ask questions because if you dont, you will regret it. Make sure to find out about anything you dont get and if your absent, make sure to get everything you need from Mrs.McLinden. Bad tests grade aren't the end of the world, learn from your mistakes and do corrections. When studying, only focus on the things you don't completely understand. Good luck and have an open mind!

Okay, new algebra students. If you want to succeed in this class, pay attention to me closely. first, understand the concept. if you don't, and go on, you will FAIL the quiz/ test. Second, don't interrupt. That will just slow down the class and get you less class time to do your homework in class. Also, don't be annoying to others (Gregory!!!)! They will hate you. When there is group work, no one will want to be your partner. Lastly, pay close attention to polynomials, quadratics, exponential functions, radicals, and rational functions. It is VERY important to master these in Algebra, or you will fail in algebra II.
Good luck to all of you!!!

Alright, listen up future 7th graders, cause I'm gonna give you some very useful advice.
1. Pay very, very, very close attention when Ms. McLinden is teaching.
2. Do your homework and turn it in; you'll be glad you did. Don't slack. If you do you can watch your grade drop down.
3. Study, study, study(for tests and quizzes of course!)!
4. You should know the basics of Algebra before you start. (I think I did!)
5. And last but not least, LEARN!!!
Actually learn something new!!! It's truly amazing!

Well hope this helps.
Good Luck,

Antor C.

Hey Future Seventh Graders!
I'm going to put an effort into this blog and tell you EXACTLY what you need to know to get through algebra next year!

1. Don't you DARE misbehave. (hehe) I'm just kidding. But if you don't misbehave, Ms McLinden may let you sit WHEREVER you want in the 2nd semester, like she did with us. :)
2. Do your homework every night and study for tests (unless you like, have a photographic memory...)You will definetly get an A or B average if you give it your all.
3. Enjoy it!
THe best part about algebra, is you already know pretty much EVERYONE in your class, so you can hang out with the same friends you had last year. For example, all of my friends are on a different team than me, but I get to see them everyday in algebra! Studying with a buddy is funner than studying alone!

Well, that's what you need to learn about algebra! Don't worry, you'll do fine as long as you don't spend your class time playing calculator games...

1)BEWARE THE LAST THREE CHAPTERS!! (quadradics, radicals, and rationals, though you probably won't get there...)

2)DON'T TAP, SHE HATES IT!! (though you should know that already)

3)DO HOMEWORK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!4)DON'T STRESS ABOUT TESTS!!5)BE SMARTICAL!!

hey everyone
heres some helpful advice for your year in algebra. Make good grades on the tests and study for them. It really hurts your grade if you dont. Also, if you dont understand something, dont be scared to ask a question. AS a 6th grader taking algebra I found out the hard way that you cant just slightly pay attention or not study as I know some of you may do in other classes. If there are any 6th graders reading this, dont be afraid to interact with the 7th graders. I ended up making some good freinds this year. But dont talk to mark or jonathan theyre mean.

HELLO ALL ALGEBRA STUDENTS!!!
You may expect me to give you a long list of things not to do or tell you my experences in this class that you have now gotten yourself into. But this my friend, is a warning.

Prepare yourself for the rough times ahead. You may think this is some any-old algebra class but it's way! worse than that. prepare yourself for 3 whole hours of math homework each and every night. If you have any outside activities at all, you better be prepared for LLOONNGG!! before school tutorials, and even longer nights!

To disrespect the teacher is a certian death sentance. She will probably let you off with a warning the first time you do something, but the next time you do it, be prepared to do a little dirty work to recover from the blow.

I am one of the few survivors that my fellow friend told you about. Prepare yourself! PREPARE YOURSELF!

dear future people in my current class, i really, really, really reccomend not slacking. if you don't remember one thing in this class it will come back later in the course. + a lot of this course will be in future math classes. i missed one day of school and now i keep only getting B's in this class because i never bothered to learn what i missed. btw if you miss enough days including a test you get to do the test at home(hint hint to people who fake sick) also don't play games on the calculator or talk in class. i never understood the calculator games though, they suck.and if your bored just tap on your desk with a pencil, it annoys teachers and ms.mclinden wont punish you (maybe). also if you are all good (in ms.mclinden's eyes not yours) then you might be able to sit where ever you want

I'm one of the survivors. My info will keep u alive. It is vital to your sucess. Remember it and u will live (maybe). Pay attenion to my words.

Don't start your hw while Ms McKlinden is talking. She no like. U will fail miserably if u don't. Wait until she is done explaining the hw. It helps a lot. No joke.

Pay attention to her words. They help. She can tell u shortcuts to finding out the answer. The book is cruel cause it only tells u the longest and hardest way to get the answer.

Do not talk or u will have to sit in the corner (if u r lucky). If not you will have to sit right in front of her.

Write your hw in your planner. It actually helps. I didn't and I had a long semester.

Don't be afraid to ask questions. If u don't understand ask QUESTIONS! U will survive if u ask questions (maybe).

The packet of doom is nothing like they say. It is WORST. It will eat u if u don't ask questions. Take it slow and don't put it off until the last day.

Don't procrastinate. U will die. Seriosly. Don't procrastinate. Try and get your hw done as soon as u can.

Go to tutorials. It will help. Ms McKlinden won't bite (i think). U will survive.

Study for tests. Study the parts u don't understand. Go to tutorials. Take the quizs in the book. They r very helpful.

The last 3 chapters r horrible. They won't eat u but they r no fun. Definately ask questions about them.

Prrepare yourself. This will not be easy. If u think u can't do it, go listen to 'I Will Survive'. it will help.

My words r better than gold. They will keep u alive. Don't forget them. Tape them to your face if u have to. But do not forget. They will keep you alive.

No guts. No glory.
Above the influence.
The few. The proud. Me.

Another one of the survivors.

This year was awesome, but rough at times. I'll tell you this, be SURE TO TAKE NOTES because the examples in the book will NOT help you with the majority of the problems, because they choose the easiest ones. I'd also like to say don't listen to the people that say "YOU"RE GONNA DIE" and stuff like that. It's so not true. Oh and if you're planning on being Ms.Mclinden's teacher aid in 8th grade, be sure to keep yourself extra organized and help out alot. That's what I did, and I'm hers next year! Possibly for yalls class! Well I guess you'd know by the time you're reading this...

THIS GOES OUT TO KAYLEIGH AND MADDIE IF YALL MAKE IT INTO ALGEBRA(i'm hoping yall did).

ps-I gotta stop saying yall

Oh and i'd also like to point out some of the things you know not to do or to do, but you end up forgetting.

1.Don't fail
2.Listen
3.Don't fail
4.You're not gonna die like everyone says you will
5.Don't fail
6.Don't make dumb mistakes
7.Don't fail
8.Study
9.Don't fail
10.Don't try and find the easy way out
11.Don't procrastinate (trust me, I learned that lesson in 5th grade. I was so bad, I came up with a song about it.)
12.DON'T FAIL!!!

And if you didn't get my point above, take test corrections. They help. TRUST ME. I have past experience...on 2/3 of my tests...

Don't fail.

To the future students of Algebra (al-juh-brah).
The past year has been overwhelming, and I can't say that I'd want to do it over again... The leap from 6th Grade TAG to 7th Grade Algebra is a big one, and I hope to help you on your trek. First of all, don't get too stressed out if you don't understand much, or anything at all! Just make sure that you find a way to arrange a meeting with Ms. McLinden so that you eventually do get it.
There will come a time where you're grade will be in Jeopardy, which is when it'll come clear to you that you NEED to study for tests & quizes. It would also be wise to take notes EVERY SINGLE DAY, so that if you ever have trouble on a problem on the homework, you can always refer back to your notes and in order to take notes, you'll have to pay attention to Ms. McLinden's lesson!
Another hint of advice; when I'm having serious trouble on a problem, I like to clear my mind and think about the basics, and build my way up to the actual problem. Now I can sit here and warn you about every single difficult lesson, or I can let you live the experience!

Remember to live your life fully, and that includes your 7th grade Algebra class!

-Brent A.

P.S. - Try not to do your Blog the day before it's due...

1.Do not procrastinate!
2.Take GOOD notes!
3.The tests aren't easy nor hard.( if you study!)

I hope you use my advice wisely because my battle with algebra was long and hard but rewarding.

i forgot to mention that the last chapter is torture. you will be VERY confused and ur grade will drop...

The packet of doom took FOREVER! It will Fry your brain. you will spend forever doin hw and will stay up late trying to figure the extremely hard problems out. if you do the first page and think its easy(scott) believe me, it gets harder!!! just thinking about that packet hurts my brain...

Good Luck and try to survive!
